WEILAND PROPELS 'BOYS TO 4-2 VICTORY
|

Despite starting the season off on a sour 0-2 mark, the Good Ole Boys have turned
on the skates and captured three straight victories. The most recent victory occured
on Wednesday night as the red shirts defeated Blue Vortex by the final of 4-2. Joe
Weiland staged the third period heroics for the red shirts, as the East Kentwood grad
netted the game winning goal and added an insurance tally in the third period to help
the 'Boys to victory. The Boys opened the scoring in the opening period, as Brian
Bonzheim was able to back hand a blazing beauty behind the Vortex goaltender net
to give the 'Boys a 1-0 lead. Blue Vortex answered back late in the opening period,
as a point shot would deflect off a Good Ole Boy defenseman's stick and find its way
behind Wootton in the Good Ole Boy goal to tie the game at 1-1. In the second
period, Brad Zehr would regain the red shirt lead, as the Muskegon native and
former Phantom would receive the puck from a Boeske face-off win and loomed and
doomed through the Vortex defense to duek Mike Endres putting the 'Boys back on
top at 2-1. However, that lead would again be erased minutes later, as Blue Vortex
would manage to capitalize on another point shot that would find its way through a
screened goaltender to again bring both teams into a deadlock entering the
intermission. In the third period, Joe Weiland would net his first of two on the night,
as a failed Matt Zehr breakaway attempt would leave loose puck near the mouth of
the goal and Joe Weiland would bury the puck past Endres to restore the 'Boys lead
at 3-2. Late in the third period, Weiland would again net paydirt and the former
Falcon would net an insurance tally to increase the 'Boys lead to 4-2. Despite a Blue
Vortex power-play in the third period, the red shirts would play a strong brand of
'Boys Hockey and kill off the Vortex's extra-man-band. The 4-2 victory is the third
straight win for the 'Boys this season as they expand their record to 3-2. They will
return to action next Wednesday at 8:00pm to tangle with Kansas City.
